A New Journey

Awaits On

Penang Hill Cable Car

The Penang Hill Cable Car Project is reshaping how Penang connects with its most treasured landscape.

Set within one of Malaysia’s UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, this development provides a sustainable link between the Botanic Gardens and Bukit Bendera—preserving the hill’s natural and cultural significance while creating better access for everyone.

Delivered by Hartasuma Sdn Bhd in partnership with Penang Hill Corporation and the Penang State Government, the project combines Austrian engineering precision from Doppelmayr with Malaysia’s proven expertise in modern transport systems.

The cable car will ease congestion on the historic hill railway, improve accessibility for all visitors, and support sustainable tourism that protects what makes Penang Hill irreplaceable.

Construction is underway. A new chapter is beginning.

The Development

Hill Station

The Hill Station serves as the hilltop’s concierge—a welcoming point where cable car guests arrive, orient, and flow into the heart of the experience. Its sky-terrace features elevated casual dining, craft desserts, and panoramic views, creating a vibrant yet unhurried place to gather. Just below, an atmospheric experiential lounge invites visitors into nature-inspired rituals, soundscapes, and moments of calm before continuing across the Hill.
